Materials are at the heart of our architecture. Understanding what they are and how the go together underpins the detail of our work and thereby the appearance of our projects. Understanding the properties of material informs other parts of our architecture: sustainability, health, style and history.
This is the raw substance of our architecture. Time is spent in understanding material properties; hands on, through building and detail study, scientific analysis and design development. In this way we bring experiences forward from one project to the next.
Care is taken in choosing materials so that they give the properties needed for our projects. Key to these are durability, workability and sustainability. They should be of definable character and good quality. The attention to detail given to the selection of materials is mirrored at different stages and scales of design.
